"Yoga for a Broken Heart"

By Michelle Paisley

"This is what I know to be true. I believe in love. I believe it is the only thing that really matters. I believe that no matter how much you have been through, you will keep hurting until you understand the lessons and you will keep hurting until you find the inner strength to love again, to love some more, to love like your life depends on it - because it does.

"Yoga means union and union is love. Union is spirit and that spirit resides in you. It doesn't go away, no matter what you have suffered. That suffering was necessary to hit you over the head until you realize what's inside of you. If you don't want to suffer - learn how to really love. Stop resisting and let go... YOGA IS LOVE. "

Save the Dates: June 7th & 8th

Diane Ducharme, Senior Bikram Yoga teacher endorsed by Bikram to conduct seminars, workshops, and posture clinics around the world, will visit the Avondale studio on June 7 and BYPV on June 8. Exact times to be announced later.

Sign up early, for $75, to attend a posture clinic and class, or come the day of event for $100. To take the class only, the fee is $20.

Diane took her first class in 1985 under the instruction of Madelyn Mederois. "I knew from the very first class that this yoga would be part of my life and that I would teach it," Diane says. Bikram began his certification program in 1994 and Diane rearranged her life to attend in 1995 and become certified.

"In postures clinics I was taught directly by Bikram how to read bodies (when to correct, how to correct, how much the individual body is capable of doing), how to teach people with positive outcomes, and how important this yoga is to the human body, mind, and soul," Diane says. Watch for flyers and more information to come about Diane Ducharme and her posture clinic and class.

April Student of the Month: Edmond

I had tried Bikram Yoga twice in the past, once three years ago, and again two years ago. Both times yielded mild enthusiasm and results, but I never got past the 30-day "sticking point." I had never found a reason to do yoga other than for some immediate results such as weight loss. By committing to a longer period this time, I discovered motivation and meaning behind yoga beyond just looking for physical benefits.

Since moving to Arizona a little over nine months ago, I have undergone somewhat of a mid-life awakening and have experienced many changes in both physical and mental self. By adopting several lifestyle changes, including a vegetarian diet, eliminating heavy weight lifting and doing Bikram Yoga, I have lost about sixty pounds and feel have quite a new outlook on life. The weight loss alone has made it easier to practice, and has helped me evaluate other areas of my life and health. Turning 47 in a couple of months, I believe I am in a renaissance period of my life, where I am exploring and learning about health, fitness, spirituality and emotional and intellectual aspects of myself. I believe yoga offers so much more than I am currently experiencing, and hope to learn more.

I believe I get the most from yoga by going on a daily basis. I enjoy the rigidity of Bikram yoga, making it easier for me to focus on the poses and paying attention to how my body behaves and responds. Since starting four months ago, I have tried to eliminate the external distractions such as water and towels, and try to set my intention each day on more internal focus, such as breathing or proper posture. I have an easier time during the leg strengthening postures, awkward and eagle, and have much room for improvement in the back bending poses. My favorite posture is eagle.

It is said that the 80's are the new 60's, and 100's are the new 80's. I believe that yoga, with all that it offers beyond just asana and pranayama, will provide me a path to live a full, active and long life, well beyond 100. I look forward to practicing on my 100th birthday and making everyone have to blow 100 times in Khapalbhati breathing at the end of the class.
