Erin Buchwald's home base is the Bikram Yoga Paradise Valley Studio. Erin has practiced Bikram yoga for about four years and has taught for a year and a half.
Erin was introduced to Bikram yoga by a neighbor. "One of our fellow teachers, Don Grostic, taught my first class and I was instantly hooked. I loved the heat, the sweat and the challenge. I also loved how I felt after class was over," Erin says.
"Within the first few months of my practice, I knew I'd become a teacher, it was just a matter of time," she says, adding, "Everything came together for me in the fall of 2005."
Erin says her favorite pose constantly changes as her body opens. "Currently I'm really enjoying Eagle pose. Lately I have been able to wrap my foot around my calf muscle," she says, noting, "It has taken me four years to do this!"
"I feel a much deeper stretch now that I'm able to do this and its helping open up my legs and hips even more. The primary tip I'd give to a new student is be patient with your body," Erin says.
Years of running took a toll on Erin's knees. "I'd have severe, sharp, shooting pain when I'd squat and even when I'd walk sometimes," she says, adding, "After going to the teacher training and doing so much yoga, my knees are healthier than they've been in years." Erin notes that occasionally she'll experience a little pain, but for the most part, it's gone.
Like many people who practice Bikram yoga, the Buffalo, NY native brings her own interesting background to the mat: Erin has a degree in Anthropology and Business Studies.
